We spoke to a prospective client last week who was looking to move abroad, it was their first time in Turkey and unfortunately they were not interested in moving here. We like to get as much feedback as possible from clients who come to visit and when we asked why they thought Turkey wasn’t right for them, they replied saying that they didn’t think the infrastructure of the country was sufficiently developed.
An unexpected answer, Turkey is a developed nation, and while it is true that the country is not as well developed as the UK, if you are only moving to a country to live then Turkey can certainly provide the necessary infrastructure. Granted some areas of Turkey are less developed then others but they wouldn’t be moving there, they would be moving to Bodrum.
Infrastructure usually relates to major facilities like roads, public transport, electricity, water, sewerage, gas, phones lines, airports, emergency services and a whole lot more, basically the backbone of a nation that will allow it to grow both economically and socially. Educational and social services may be behind the UK in terms of development and funding but as a foreign national you will most likely never use these particular services. In terms of services that will actually affect your standard of living Turkey has all the bases covered.
I doubt that she was referring to these types of services however, the basic infrastructure the supports society. Most people never notice the work being carried out in the background and so infrastructure starts to relate to more everyday services that people use. Bodrum has these too, in abundance; unless you are living in a capital city then a majority of the facilities that you enjoy at home in the UK can also be found out here.
So here is a list of all the facilities I can think of that Bodrum has at it disposal, in no particular order:
* Airport with International and Domestic terminals
* Private hospital
* Satellite TV
* Broadband internet up to 8 Mb
* Mobile phone networks
* Cheep and effective local Dolmus public bus service
* Domestic coach services to major Turkish cities
* Petrol stations with LPG on every road
* Several large marinas
* Two ports with ferries to Greek islands
* Beaches
* Banks
* Supermarkets
* Mini markets
* Hardware stores
* Car dealerships
* Postal service
* Cargo and delivery companies
* Traditional Turkish markets
* Shopping malls
* Clothing shops with high street brands and top fashion retailers
* Electronics, home ware and furnishing shops
* A multitude of superb restaurants offering every possible cuisine
* Bars
* Night clubs
* Golf courses
* Multiplex cinema
* Aqua Park
* Bowling alley
* Boat cruises
* Historical ruins including a Wonder of the Ancient World
* A Castle
* Spas
* Turkish Baths
That is just a list of what came to mind, and definitely not definitive, and that is just Bodrum. Turkey is a huge country and if you travel out to one of the big cities like Istanbul or Izmir you will find an even larger choice. Let me know if there is something that you have at home that you might miss out here and I will do my hardest to track it down.
